This is the longest page on the Film Tanka Reviews site – feel free to skip it.
Film Tanka by Colin and Mitch marks a departure from the standard ways of getting information about what films to watch. While there are many excellent sites out there dedicated to Haiku film reviews (Ginhon) we humbly submit the older, related, Tanka form as ideal for the purpose.
Why Tanka?
Tanka are a short poetic form – you don’t have time to find out what a film’s about, who’s in it, who made it AND get a critical opinion so get the information boiled down the Tanka way. Star systems are unqualified. Haiku are, admittedly, shorter but here’s how we think our Tanka reviews work:
First Part (5-7-5): Tells you what the film is about
Second Part (7-7): Tells you what we thought about it
If you’re really rushed you can just read our opinion, saving yourself a valuable 2-syllables over Haiku reviews. If, frankly, you don’t give a damn what we think, you still get a summary of the film. If you are spoilt for time go crazy and soak in the whole Tanka experience.
